Chemical Applications at Parks

While all chemicals pose a health risk at certain quantities, the chemicals used by our parks department are considered low risk to people and pets by the EPA and Utah Department of Agriculture. We use over-the-counter products that do not require an applicator’s license. They are similar to what homeowners can buy at home improvement stores. The chemicals we use focus on weed and insect control. We try our best to not apply when people are around, often first thing in the morning. We ask that people not go on the grass after an application until the grass is dry. This helps ensure that the treatment applied works optimally and helps protects patrons who may have sensitivities to certain chemicals. If a patron does get the chemicals on their clothes or body its typically low risk. Please consult the safety data sheets (SDS) below for more details on the properties and risks for each chemical we use.
