About the Academic Lab
The Academic Lab provides one-on-one reading tutoring, focused math lessons, and homework help to 2nd grade-9th grade students throughout the community. The tutoring is provided as a public service from the city, as an ongoing part of the community’s commitment to enhance basic literacy skills of all our citizens.

The Academic Lab reading tutors are community volunteers trained to assist students improve their reading skills. The Academic Lab is frequently referred to by various state officials as a “model for community-based literacy programs in the state of Utah.”

The Academic Lab will help students with homework in math, science, history, reading, social studies, art, and other areas. 

Students have access to computers, reference materials, calculators, supplies, and grade-level reading materials to accomplish homework, projects, and other school assignments.

Locating the Lab
The easiest way to find the lab is to take the elevator, adjacent to the front desk in the library, to the basement and turn left.

Academic Lab Rules

To participate in the services offered by the Academic Lab, parents and students must be respectful of staff and other students. 

Only water bottles are allowed in the lab, no other food or drink permitted.

 To Receive Reading Tutoring:

  • Students must be enrolled in 2nd grade - 9th grade
  • Students must be reading below grade level
  • Parents must register their student for a scheduled appointment
  • Students are required to show up on time to all scheduled appointments and to leave the Academic Lab when their appointment is over. 

 To Receive Math/Homework Help:

  • Students must be enrolled in 2nd grade - 9th grade
  • No appointment necessary
  • Students must be working on assignments. If not working with a tutor, students will be required to leave
