The State of Utah adopted building codes state, “Any owner or owner’s authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system, the installation of which is regulated by this code, or to cause any such work to be performed, shall first make application to the building official and obtain the required permit.”

Buildings less than 200 square feet do not require a permit but will need to comply with set back and municipal code requirements for your zone. Please contact the building department if you are unsure if your project requires a building permit.

Inspections are taken Monday - Thursday from 7 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. All inspections are scheduled no less than 24 hours in advance of the inspection time. Due to the increase of construction in American Fork, you are encouraged to schedule your inspections 2 - 3 days in advance of needing them. Please make certain that all work is complete and you are ready for your inspection, prior to calling.
